CHR is Beneficiary of Epic Steam Train Half Marathon SATURDAY!
WINDSOR, Conn. – Early this Saturday morning, October 26, runners from all over the country will line up to race against the Essex Steam Train during the annual Steam Train Half Marathon and Relay, benefitting local charities, including Community Health Resources (CHR), the state’s most comprehensive non-profit behavioral healthcare agency.
Runners will race against the train along a scenic 13.1 mile course through Essex and Deep River while their families and friends can cheer them on and relax from the comfort of the steam train.
What: It’s a unique Half Marathon where hundreds of runners race against the Essex Steam Train. This is the only half marathon of its kind in the country and has attracted runners from throughout the U.S. In addition, the event will benefit local non-profits, including CHR.
When: Saturday, October 26. Runners will arrive starting at 6 a.m. and the race starts with a loud train whistle at 7:30 a.m.
Where: The race begins and ends from the Essex Steam Train Station on 1 Railroad Avenue in Essex, CT.
Who: The event is the brainchild of Team Making a Difference (MAD), a volunteer-led organization that raises money to help local charities through road races. CHR, one of the beneficiaries, provides a range of expert services to help children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by mental illness, addiction or trauma. In recent years, CHR has introduced new programs to help clients adopt healthy lifestyles through exercise, wellness, primary care and nutrition programs.
