Jill Benson, CHR Senior Vice President for Systems Operation, was a featured speaker at the Healthcare, Housing and Homelessness IForum hosted by the Partnership for Strong Communities in Hartford on May 21st.  The forum’s focus was on the importance of creating connections among health care and housing services to assist populations struggling with homelessness.  Benson spoke about how helping the homeless not only benefits their health, but the health of the healthcare industry overall and local communities as well.
In June, Benson was again a featured speaker on the topic of homelessness, this time on the Manchester Review, where she spoke about the challenges of finding appropriate and affordable supportive housing for homeless individuals.
“Supportive housing improves stability, supports employment, improves mental and physical health and reduces substance use,” Benson said.  “It is a good economic investment and helps build strong, healthy communities.”
In 2012, CHR provided a total of 133 housing slots and provided housing support services to 555 families.
