MARCH 21, 2016
Academy Award nominated actor and best-selling author Mariel Hemingway will join CHR to celebrate its 50th anniversary at a festive event on Saturday, May 7, at the Gershon Fox Ballroom in downtown Hartford. The event, called CHR’s 50th Birthday Gala, will include dinner, dancing, a silent auction and a special presentation by Hemingway.
Known for her work in such films as Manhattan, Lipstick and Personal Best, Hemingway is also a prolific author, speaker and mental health advocate who speaks to audiences across the country about the challenges that she and her family have faced. Her recent book, Out Came the Sun, provides touching and candid reflections about growing up in one of America’s most famous families and finding her own path. At the gala, Hemingway will share her inspiring story with CHR’s staff, friends and supporters in an effort to raise awareness and combat the stigmas associated with mental illness, suicide and addictions.
“We are so thrilled to host Mariel Hemingway at our 50th Birthday Gala. She continues to inspire and encourage people throughout the country with her message of hope and healing. Her message ties in perfectly with CHR and our goals of promoting complete health for all people,” said Heather Gates, President and CEO of CHR.
CHR started as a small counseling center in 1966 and is now the state’s most comprehensive, non-profit behavioral healthcare agency, offering personalized, effective care for children, families and adults whose lives have been touched by trauma, mental illness and addictions. In the past year, CHR provided services to more than 20,000 children, families and adults in central and eastern Connecticut. Of note, CHR is pursuing new ways to integrate primary care with mental health and addiction services and is part of Connecticut’s Zero Suicide initiative.
Tickets for CHR’s 50th Birthday Gala and an array of sponsorship and advertising opportunities are still available.
