CHR served over 550 individuals in Connecticut through the 2025 Adopt-a-Family Program with support from generous donors

WINDSOR, Conn. –  More than 125 families in need, representing over 550 individuals, received holiday gifts this season thanks to a heartwarming program coordinated by nonprofit behavioral healthcare provider Community Health Resources (CHR).

“On behalf of my family, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your generosity and kindness as well as your dedication and service in our community,” said Tyler, a CHR client whose family benefitted from the Adopt-a-Family program. “We are incredibly grateful for the support of CHR and the people who help people like me. You made our holiday extra special.”

CHR’s annual Adopt-a-Family Program matches donors with families served by CHR who would not otherwise have holiday gifts to share with loved ones. Receiving families are clients served by CHR who are nominated by a CHR staff member, including individuals to families with multiple family members.

This year, more than 100 generous donors from across Connecticut participated, including individuals, families, businesses, organizations, and sports teams. Just a few of our incredible donors this year included: Levine Distributing Co., Phoenix Environmental Laboratories, Business Risk Partners, Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation, Ben & Jerry’s CT, the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Hartford Yard Goats Foundation, Johnson Brunetti, Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union, Ultimate Staffing Services, Centreville Bank, Crum & Forster, Raymond James, CHUBB, Amwins Program Underwriters, Inc., and many more.

We are also thankful for grant support from the Chelsea Groton Foundation and Dime Bank.

“Receiving those gifts from donors truly made the client’s day and gave her a more positive outlook at a time when she felt she had nothing to hold onto,” said Noora Shrestha, BHH Specialist for CHR’s Behavioral Health Home (BHH).

“It was astonishing to see the incredible generosity from our donors this year,” said Heather Gates, President and CEO of CHR. “This kind of support around the holidays is critical for many individuals and families we see at CHR, as it provides them with the opportunity to focus on their mental health and recovery journey.”

CHR is incredibly thankful to the donors and staff that made this program possible this year.
