Save the date: October 28, 2017 in Essex, Hosted by Team MAD

WINDSOR, Conn. – CHR, a non-profit behavioral healthcare agency serving thousands of children, families and adults in central and eastern Connecticut, will be a beneficiary this fall of proceeds raised during the only road race against a steam train in the U.S.

The event is the Essex Steam Train Half Marathon and Relay, on October 28, starting from the Essex Steam Train. Runners will race against the train along a scenic 13.1 mile course while their families and friends can cheer them on and relax from the comfort of the steam train.

This is the brainchild of Team Making a Difference (MAD), a volunteer-led organization that raises money to help local charities through road races. Since its founding in 2006, Team MAD has raised thousands of dollars to help people in our region.

“We are very excited to present the country’s first half marathon and relay against a steam train and at the same help a worthy non-profit like CHR,” said Matt Resnisky, President of Team MAD. The only other road race against a train is held in Scotland, he noted.

CHR provides a range of expert services to help children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by mental illness, addiction or trauma. In recent years, CHR has introduced new programs to help clients adopt healthy lifestyles through exercise, wellness, primary care and nutrition programs.

“We are very impressed with the mission of Team MAD and are so proud to partner with them on this spectacular event. We strongly believe in the power of exercise to change and improve lives,” said Heather Gates, President and CEO of CHR. “We deeply appreciate Team MAD’s generosity and their commitment to help people in need.”
