Enfield Town Manager Christopher Bromson received confirmation of a $310,212 grant award from the Connecticut Department of Housing. The funding will be used by the Enfield Department of Social Services (DSS), in collaboration with Community Health Resources (CHR), to establish a mobile homeless shelter diversion project in the Greater Enfield area. “We’re excited by the opportunity this funding provides. We started the conversation about this effort last spring, and we can’t wait to get the project started.” Bromson remarked.
Enfield’s Mayor Michael Ludwick commented that “Many residents came forward to support this effort at the public hearing. It’s an innovative approach designed to help residents find housing and avoid shelter stays. The out-of-the box approach shows Enfield’s willingness to step up as a leader in the region.”
Enfield DSS will administer the grant and CHR staff will provide the direct services to those in need based on a similar program they operate in the Greater Hartford region. Heather Gates, CHR’s CEO, reflected on how this project “fills a need in the region that has previously gone unmet. CHR’s staff will offer a comprehensive array of services to help those in the program find and keep safe housing.”
CHR is the state’s most comprehensive non-profit behavioral healthcare agency and has years of experience helping individuals and families find safe and affordable housing, along with vital services.
