child mental health services

In today’s world, we’ve been more open about mental health in our work lives and home lives. Because of that, there are more mental health resources available now than ever before. But at the same time, now more than ever we need to emphasize child mental health services in Connecticut.
Did you know that 70% of mental health problems begin to form during childhood or adolescence? And that 17% of children from the ages of 2-5 meet diagnostic criteria for mental health problems. When these problems are left unaddressed, it can lead to erratic behavior, self-harm, depression, or substance abuse problems through the child’s teenage years and into their 20’s.
A statistic that highlights the lack of child mental health services is that 28% of students reported that they didn’t know where to turn to when they needed to talk about their mental health. That’s why offering accessible, evidence-based mental health treatment services and resources available for children and their families is a top priority at CHR.
Our array of child and family services include child outpatient treatment and community-based services such as Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) and Functional Family Therapy (FFT) and support groups. CHR now offers telehealth services for the convenience and safety of the child and family during these times.
