Job Description
JOB TITLE: Residential Counselor
HOURS: 16-24
- Provide a safe, home-like atmosphere for children in the program.
- Work within program policy and guidelines to provide program services.
- Support routines of children through assisting and supervising wake-up, bedtime, personal care routines, meals, meal preparation, recreational activities, homework, supervision and assistance, etc.
- Identify needs and arrange for care of those needs.
- Transport, when necessary to school, family visits and appointments.
- Care for program facilities, equipment
- Supervise children’s visits with families
- Initiate recreational and program activities
- Document observation of children and assess children’s skills and moods.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors Degree Required.
- General knowledge of complex behavioral disorders in children and of mental health service system delivery.
- General knowledge of medications used to treat mental illness, their usefulness and side effects.
- Skill in managing and supporting children with complex behavioral disorders and managing and assessing crisis situations.
- Skill in teaching activities of daily living and life skills; reinforcing rules.
- Skill in recording data accurately and in writing narrative reports.
- Driver’s license required.
